Beddegana Wetland Park is one of the famous park situated in Sri Jayawardhanapura Kotte. It is located close to ‘Diyatha Uyana’ and spread over an area of 18 hectares. The entrance to the Beddegana Wetland park is located before passing the Polduwa new bridge in right hand side on the Colombo-Kaduwela road.

The Urban Development Authority planned to conserve 11 endangered wetlands around the new parliament in Battaramulla in 2006. This Beddegana wetland park was created as its first step.

This is one of the best place to capture wild life. Especially birds and butterflies.  This park is also included in the boundaries of the Sri Jayawardenapura Kotte Bird Sanctuary declared by the department of wildlife conservation. It is a safe home to a number of inland bird species and many butterfly species and dragonflies. Furthermore not only local species but also this park is home to a number of migratory bird species.

  • Importance

This was created to protect the valuable wetland environment, to reduce the environmental damages and to provide space for environmental studies. It is also target to increase eco-friendly tourism in Sri Lanka.

Many young couples visit this place as it’s a calm and attractive place. This wetland park is rich with biodiversity.

  • Important Things
  • Take a ticket at the entrance of the park.
  • You will be received a map of the wetland park when you take the ticket. Use this map to visit the entire park and find the relevant paths very easily and quickly. This map gives you a clear guidance by dividing the park into many parts. Don’t miss any of them. Each part will give you new things to see.
  • You will be checked at the entrance and don’t bring unnecessary things like Plastics and Polythene.
  • It is better to arrange the visit in early morning. If you can be there at 6.00 Am, it is much better. Because Birds hide amidst foliage after having their foods and it is not much crowded at morning time. Therefore you can visit this place very freely and effectively.
  • Don’t shout while walking on foot-paths. Animals may hide and you will not be able to see them properly.
  • Bring a water bottle.
