The Urban Development Authority planned to conserve 11 endangered wetlands around the new parliament in Battaramulla in 2006. This Beddegana wetland park was created as its first step.

This is one of the best place to capture wild life. It is a safe home to a number of inland bird species and many butterfly species and dragonflies. Furthermore not only local species but also this park is home to a number of migratory bird species.
