‘VIHARAMAHA DEVI PARK’ is one of the famous garden which is situated in the main trade City of Sri Lanka;Colombo. Earlier it was named as VICTORIA PARK.

This Park is the oldest and biggest park in the city of Colombo. National Museum, Town hall, Nelum Pokuna Theatre, Gangarama temple are located colse to this place.

Viharamaha Devi park is maintained by Colombo municiple council.

Many Young Couples visit this place on their holidays. As well as many newly wedded and newly engaged Couples used this beautiful garden to take their lovely pictures.

Etymology of Viharamaha Devi Park

‘Viharamaha Devi’ is the mother of Sri Lankan great king Dutugemunu. Therefore this park was named as Viharamaha Devi to pay honor to her.

This was constructed in British era and it was called as Victoria Park in that period.

Childrens’ Park

There is a childrens’ park in the middle of the park.

You can take your children there on weekends and make them happy.

You also have the opportunity to ride ponies.

There are many yummy food items around the children park and you can enjoy with them.

Bicycle Riding area

There is a bicycle riding circle at there. You can take bicycle by paying relevant charges and ride around the park.

Aquarium

There is also an Aquarium at the park. You can visit it by taking a ticket of 20 rupees. There are various kind of fishes at there. Your kids will be happy by entering to this dark Aquarium.

Riding Swan shaped boats in the Water

Viharamaha Devi Park has a very small water reservoir near children park. You can ride swan shaped boat at there. There is a very beautiful bridge over the water and you can capture nice pictures on it.

The Statute of Lord Buddha

There is a seated Buddha statute in the alongside of the garden. If you can visit this place in Vesak season, you will be amazed by seeing the Vesak Decorations in this premises. You can visit many Dansal around this park in Vesak and Posson seasons.
